I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally see this book go up for pre order. It’s got quite a story behind it…
Many years ago (mid-90’s) I was able to secure an agent with this book. She loved it and shopped it out to major publishers, but the word back from several was essentially the same – TOO BIG. I was asked to cut it down and I wouldn’t do it. Much like The Wolfe and other giant books, I knew that someday I’d be able to publish them in their entirety, so I put this book away. I wasn’t going to chop it up and do the characters, and the story, that disservice.
Unfortunately, that pesky faulty hard drive that cost me many, many books was involved with this one, too. I lost a good chunk of it, which I’ve been able to reconstruct, so FINALLY – this big adventure is going to see the light of day.
Also – my agent at the time made me change the title to Sacred Splendor from the original title of The Centurion because she said it was more ‘romantic’. Maybe it is, but I like The Centurion much better – so here it is, in its entirety, as it was always meant to be.
And it’s one heck of a tale. Make sure you have your copy reserved!
