Did I mention that Marcus Burton has a big role in The Splendid Hour? He never appears in any of the Executioner Knight tales, but Holy Cow, does he appear in this one – as only Marcus Burton can. I’d forgotten how much I loved writing about Burton. He’s not in any of the other EK books because he’s up north, in Yorkshire, doing his own thing, but in this novel, he and Chris are tight – and trying to deal with Peter’s love for the jeweler’s daughter. As Marcus says, Peter may be Chris’ son, but Marcus raised him (if you remember from the end of Rise of the Defender, Peter fostered with Marcus).
